Arkansas Pagan Author in the News

by John Caldwell

(October 8, 2019)  Today is the official release of The Practical Witch’s Almanac: 2020 Walking Your Path.  Written by local author, Friday Gladheart, it is already in the top 100 best sellers in Paganism on Amazon today. You can find local stores that carry it on the official almanac website, where you can also get a signed copy from the author.

Published by Microcosm Publishing, an employee owned, eco-friendly, independent publishing house, it has enjoyed a rapidly growing following of loyal readers.  The publisher tells us that the first printing of the 2020 almanac already sold out and it is now being reprinted.  That is impressive, especially when you consider that it was just released today.

The annual almanac has been in publication for 23 years, and has a companion website where full size wall calendars can be downloaded and printed free for anyone who decodes the “Witches Runes” in the printed and eBook editions. There is now an app on the official site for almanac owners so they can sync their iCal or Google calendars with the almanac.

In a phone interview with Friday, she explains that she uses feedback from readers to improve every edition.

“People always tell me how much they love how it (the almanac) brings magic to every day, but a lot of them told me that they needed more space to write. So, this year the space for writing on each day is over 40% larger than any previous edition.

But that is just it, I really contribute its success to the input from readers.  Everything I write is carefully researched, and am seriously dedicated to my practice.  I think people feel that when they pick up the almanac.  It isn’t written by a team of people who specialize in providing ‘content’ to make sales, it is obviously a work of love.  I weave my art and magic into everything from the font to the layout, even using sacred geometry and the Fibonacci ratio to create beautiful pages that I hope people take pleasure in using.

People see the quality, and know that when they tell me something could be better, I listen!  I try to honor the Earth, and am grateful to my publisher for respecting the Earth too.  I love that they are printed in the U.S. on 100% post-consumer, recycled parchment, and that the quality of the paper is such a joy to write upon.

I strive to include everyone, without gate-keeping or judgment, and provide the most useful and practical daily planner for Pagans, Wiccans, Heathens, Earth-based spiritualists, magic(k)al practitioners from all paths, and those with a scientific or historical interest in the world around them.  I want it to be useful for all of us, and I think because I listen to my readers, it has become just that.”
Arkansas Pagans is proud to congratulate our very own local author on her hard work and dedication to serving the Pagan community.

Friday Gladheart will be presenting a workshop at 4:00 pm at the Arkansas Pagan Pride on October 26, 2019 in Entergy Park (see the event listings here on Arkansas Pagans for more location details).  The presentation, “Magic is Afoot” will cover Spellcraft in the 21st Century, how to use modern ideas, concepts, and tools while honoring tradition.  You will be able to purchase this best selling almanac at the author’s vending table, along with jewelry she creates, soap, and even incense made from herbs grown in her own garden at the Pagan Sanctuary she is creating with her partner here in Arkansas.

Friday has taught over 30,000 students through the oldest online academy for Witchcraft that she founded in the mid 1990s, PaganPath.com.  You can ask her questions at Pride, or even get a tarot reading from her if time allows.
