I’ll admit it, I’m a diehard Vikings fan, and not just for the gorgeous men The History Channel likes to trot across my screen (seriously, have you seen Clive Standen as Rollo? No? Google him. Don’t worry, I’ll wait). One of the things I love most about the show is the way its women are portrayed…strong, fearless, able to be both mothers and warriors with nobody seeing a contradiction between the two. The epitome of everything badass and female in the world of Vikings is the shieldmaiden Lagertha, once the wife of Ragnar and now her own noble with a title and lands.
Lagertha, portrayed by actress and martial arts enthusiast Katheryn Winnick, has done a lot for female empowerment. Not since the days of Xena and Buffy have we had such a truly inspiration female warrior to look up to!
